Doug Ashton is a senior associate of Policing & Security Management Services Inc. and the founding president of The Control Institute Inc., a firm specializing in the design and delivery of use of force and conflict  management training for both the public and private sectors.  With over twenty-five years experience as a training specialist, starting initially during the course of a successful policing career that culminated at the Staff Sergeant level with the Peel Regional Police, Doug is now currently recognized as a leading public safety and security training expert. During his distinguished policing career, Doug managed recruit training programs, use of force training, and trained both instructors and recruits at the Ontario Police College. In the private sector, Doug currently conducts risk assessments, designs and customizes curricula, and delivers training to a range of government and corporate clients. His professional credentials include being qualified as an expert witness in the use of force in courts across Canada; the holder of high-level black belt rankings in several martial arts disciplines; certifications as an instructor with a number of recognized organizations including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) in non-violent crisis intervention, and as one of two Canadian associate staff instructors with the PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) Management Systems Inc.
